Writing Consultants

I’m a grad student getting an MFA in fiction. I view tutoring as an extension of my writing and teaching here at KU. It’s a chance to work one-on-one with other students and learn what’s up with our myriad departments. I’m short in stature, so you will find me unintimidating.

I am a book-loving, whale-loving, quirky senior who is glad to return to the writing center! You can find me doing yoga at the rec, knitting, or doing community service with my sorority. Come talk to me about you writing—I’m excited to hear what you have to say!

I’ve been with the Writing Center for more than two years. I’m a political science, international studies, and COMS major planning to go into marketing/PR.

I’m a graduate student in political science. I love thunderstorms and baking. I make high fashion dresses. I toured Italy and Greece in 2012.

My name is Amy Putman and I am a senior at KU. I am majoring in secondary English education and love reading and writing. This is my second year working in the writing center. This year I am working as a writing fellow and am very excited to see what this year holds.

I am a junior studying secondary English education. By the time I graduate, I hope to specialize in working with ESL students. After graduating, I plan to teach language arts to middle school students, but I’m not opposed to teaching high school at some point.

A PhD student in American studies, I’m an eclectic mix both ethnically and academically. I am excited about every part of the writing process.

Administrative Intern

I’m a grad student from Wichita, studying English literature and theory. I’m entering my 12th semester as a writing consultant and feel comfortable working with just about anyone about just about anything.

I’m an undergraduate consultant currently working as a writing fellow. My major is English, with a minor in strategic communication.

I am a graduate student pursuing my PHD in Rhetoric and Composition. Before coming to KU, I worked in the writing center at Kansas State

I’m a second-year creative writing major hailing from the West Coast. I like writing and helping other people do that too.

I’m a graduate student in the Department of English working on my master’s in Rhetoric and Composition, and this is my third year working in a writing center.

Marketing Coordinator

I'm a fourth-year PhD student in the Department of English, focusing on Rhetoric and Composition. I love thunderstorms, candles, and musicals. I am also known as the Marketing Coordinator at the Writing Center.

I’m a PhD student in theatre. I have an affection for theatre, hope, coffee, and… using ellipses.

I’m studying to be an English and language arts teacher for high school or middle school students. I can often be found hanging out with books at Watson Library, hanging out with teachers at JRP, or hanging out with friends at the St. Lawrence Center. My favorite part about working with the writing center is getting to know and working with people I probably never would otherwise.

A linguistics and history double-major, I’m finishing my last semester at KU have spent time studying a number of languages, in addition to the courses for my majors. I hail from Memphis, TN, and love pickles and pulled pork barbecue.

I’m a junior majoring in English and Italian on the pre-law track. I love books and languages of all kinds, and I’m always excited to interact with other people.

I am a first-year graduate writing consultant and a third-year Ph.D. student in Communication Studies, studying the intersections of political communication, mass media, and social media. In my pre-grad school life, I was a magazine editor and a museum exhibits writer. In my spare time (ha!) I enjoy running, cooking, playing with my one-year-old daughter, and reading novels and historical non-fiction.

I'm an undergraduate student majoring in Journalism, and this is my second year at the KU Writing Center. I enjoy working here because I like working with students from different majors and cultures.

Workshop Coordinator

I'm a graduate student studying Social Work. I enjoy working at the Writing Center because it gives me a chance to help students develop confidence in their writing. Plus, I get to meet and interact with new people from the KU community!

Originally from South Dakota, I am a second year PHD student studying English literature. I love helping students with writing and transitioning into college life. Besides tutoring, I also teach English 101 and 102 Freshman Composition.

I’m double-majoring in classical antiquities and history, because the past is cool, yo! I’m also a McNair Scholar who wrote a really long paper about men, women, and what the work of Plutarch can tell us about being either one of those things within his times.  But what I really want people to know is that I have the coolest job in the world: I get to demystify some of the intricacies of writing for peers, and help students find their “writing legs.”  And that – to me, at least – is even cooler than the past.

I’m a graduate student studying TESOL, and I love living in the moment and finding joy in all things. I also enjoy baseball (go Oakland A’s!), farmer’s markets, and trying to speak new languages.

I'm a graduate student in the department of Curriculum and Teaching focusing on TESOL, and this is my first year at the KU Writing Center. My favorite part about working here is meeting students who are studying in a variety of fields and getting to collaborate with folks I might not otherwise have gotten to know.

I'm an undergraduate student majoring in Political Science and English, and this is my first year at the KU Writing Center. The greatest part about working here is being rooted in the diversity of the subjects and backgrounds of each of the student writers whom we serve; I learn something new and exciting within every consultation.

I’m a second-year master’s student in English Literature, specializing in 20th century American Literature, particularly Southern Literature. I received my BA in English and French at William Jewell College.

I am a second year grad student in Counseling Psychology, hoping to counsel at a community mental health center or non-profit center. I love traveling, baking, watching sports, sea turtles, reading, Star Wars, my dog Bear, and my family. I enjoy working at the WC because I get to meet students and work with them together to learn and improve.

I’m a part-time florist from Olathe and have studied Japanese for four years. I enjoy flowers and strawberry ice-cream and am an undergrad student studying Japanese and English.
