Instructor Writing Resources

Welcome instructors! Feel free to make full use of anything you see within these pages; they are designed with you in mind. We're also happy to talk with you about how you can incorporate writing effectively into your course design, how to plan a course around writing assignments that you want to use, and how to get ideas for appropriate, thoughtful assignments that will engage students and promote critical thinking.

What Writing Can Do

Deciding to include writing in your courses demonstrates your commitment to teaching the writing of your discipline. Research indicates that

  • Students learn about subject matter more effectively when writing about it
  • Much of the writing you require need not be evaluated
  • Writing is a process that takes time, care, revision, and response
