Undergraduate Writing Groups
Fall 2024 undergraduate writing groups will start the week of October 21st. You can register now!
Writing Center Services will offer writing groups for undergraduate students for the first time this year! They are all "accountability" groups that last 8 weeks during the second half of the semester. In accountability groups members set writing goals at the beginning of each meeting and use then the entire time to write. Each group is led by a trained peer facilitator. Feedback is not provided by the group or facilitator, though you can always sign up for writing consultations in addition to your group meetings if you want feedback on your writing.
These accountability writing groups are open to KU undergraduate students and targeted at students in capstone courses with longer writing projects. We will offer one in-person group and one virtual group this fall. Depending on the group you choose, participants will meet either on campus in Anschutz Library every week or online through a virtual Microsoft Teams meeting. Groups meet for 90-minute periods each week and include up to 10 members.
There will be 8 meetings this semester, starting the week of October 21st and ending the week of December 12th. Each meeting will be 90 minutes long. We do ask that you make attendance a priority each week.
Each meeting will begin with a 10-minute conversation to check in on your progress and to set writing goals for the session. Next, we'll spend about 1 hour and 10 minutes writing quietly together. Finally, we will check in at the end to discuss progress and set goals for the rest of the week.
Registration will run on a rolling basis, and there are a limited number of spots in each group. Groups are booked first come, first serve with students in capstone courses being given priority until October 9th. If the group is full, we will put you on a wait list and then notify you if a spot becomes available before November 15th.
We will send you a confirmation email (to your KU email account) within one week regarding your registration.
If none if these groups work with your schedule, we continue to offer individual writing consultations and designated drop-in times for undergraduate students needing writing support.
